Button Fringe Table Runner,
 

These buttons caught my eye at an antique show.  They were in an old glass jar filled with other small bits -  a marble, a washer, a lone cufflink, and a crooked screw-back earring.  What made the collection irresistible to me was the thought that someone's grandmother cut these buttons off of old shirts, house dresses, and waistbands.  Who saves buttons today?  Old clothes go to charities or they're thrown away.  I'm not a button collector, these aren't flashy, but what makes them precious is their humble history.  They were from work shirts and play clothes not intended for special occasions, but for ordinary times.  The everyday days that make up a lifetime.
